Having spent time working in construction and having family operating a business in the civil engineering sector, I am acutely aware of the effect that additional costs from the enforced move to white diesel will have on the industry.
Because of this I decided to look in to the feasibility of realistically priced electric machinery. With mainstream manufacturers offering electric versions of sub 2 tonne excavators and dumpers at a near 100% premium to their diesel equivalents, I decide that there must be a market for conversion.
The cost to convert a 1.5-1.8 tonne mini digger is approximately £11,000, less for a dumper because a smaller battery pack is required. This means that a converted machine could pay itself back in as little as 2 years.
